Scope of Practice
Therapy & Coaching
At Vocolove, our work blends clinical voice science with vocal pedagogy and expressive training. To help you choose the pathway that best supports your needs, we clearly define the scope of Voice Therapy and Voice Coaching in alignment with the Speech Pathology Australia Scope of Practice and evidence-based practice guidelines.
Supporting your voice with clarity, safety and care.
Your voice is personal. It carries your stories, your identity, your presence, your connection to others.
At Vocolove, you are supported in a way that honours both your whole self and your voice goals — whether you are speaking, singing, leading, teaching, performing, or simply wanting to feel more at home in your voice. Because voice can be impacted by many interacting factors, we offer two distinct types of support:
-
Voice Therapy (Speech Pathology Service)
-
Voice Coaching (Skill Development Service)
The difference isn’t only in the exercises we use, but in the purpose, scope and clinical requirements behind them.
Voice Therapy:
Speech Pathology Service
A clinical service delivered by a qualified speech pathologist in line with Speech Pathology Australia’s Scope of Practice.
Voice Therapy supports people experiencing changes, difficulties or concerns in their speaking or singing voice through assessment, diagnosis and evidence-based treatment. If you are unsure whether your symptoms require clinical care, you can learn more on our Voice Therapy page or contact us and we can guide you.
Voice therapy begins with a comprehensive clinical voice assessment, which may include case history, perceptual and acoustic analysis, stimulability testing and outcome measures (e.g., VHI-10).
In accordance with SPA guidelines, clients may be encouraged to obtain ENT assessment when a voice disorder is suspected, persistent or medically complex. Collaborative care is central , we may liaise with your GP, ENT, psychologist, physiotherapist, singing teacher or other professionals to ensure safe, coordinated support.
This service is billed as a speech pathology appointment, includes dedicated documentation time, and may include report writing or communication with other providers as clinically required.
Voice Coaching:
Skill Development Service
For growth, confidence and creative expression.
Voice coaching is a non-clinical, creative and educational service designed for people whose voice feels comfortable and healthy, and who would like to strengthen their technique, expand their expressive range or feel more confident in the way they communicate or perform.
Coaching sessions focus on developing vocal strength, agility and stamina, refining speaking or singing technique, supporting artistic expression, and preparing for performances, auditions, presentations or recordings. Many people also choose coaching to explore identity, creativity or communication style in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Unlike voice therapy, voice coaching does not involve assessment, diagnosis or clinical treatment of voice problems. Instead, coaching is centred on skill development and personal growth.
If concerns arise during coaching, you will be supported with transparency and care, including guidance toward appropriate clinical assessment. This ensures your training remains aligned with professional standards and that your voice is supported safely at every stage.
