Initial Voice Assessment

An in depth starting point for anyone for anyone who wants to grow, care for, and understand their speaking or singing voice.

Whether you want to speak with more confidence, sing with more freedom, build vocal stamina, or simply understand how your voice really works, this session gives you clarity, direction and a safe way forward.

Some people come with clear goals. Others come with uncertainty, strain or questions about vocal health. This assessment uses the Vocolove Grounded Voice Method™ to triage what your voice needs most right now — whether that’s building safety and stamina, developing technique and coordination, or reclaiming confidence and expression, and guide you into the right pathway.

This session is warm, conversational and tailored to you — not a rigid checklist.

What Happens in the Session

In your 45-minute assessment, we will:

  • Talk through your goals, voice use, and daily demands

  • Explore both your speaking and singing voice

  • Check breath, tension, resonance and vocal coordination

  • Use functional tasks to assess comfort, effort and stability

  • Explain what your voice patterns mean in simple terms

After your session, you’ll receive:

  • A personalised written action plan

  • Clear next steps

  • Recommendations for coaching, therapy, or further assessment

Why This Session Matters

This session removes the guesswork by helping us understand:

  • Whether your concerns are technique-based

  • Whether voice therapy may be needed

  • Whether medical assessment is recommended

  • Whether it’s safe to move straight into coaching

  • What approach will best support your goals

This ensures your voice is supported safely, from the very beginning.

If Voice Therapy Is Needed

If your screening indicates a clinical concern, a full voice therapy assessment may be recommended. This assessment can be completed with a qualified speech pathologist, either within Vocolove or with another clinician of the client’s choosing. This is a separate clinical session that includes formal measures, perceptual ratings, acoustic analysis and diagnosis to guide therapy. Your Initial Voice Assessment does not duplicate this — it helps determine whether that step is needed.

If Coaching Is Suitable

If your voice is functioning safely and your goals are artistic, technical or confidence-based, you can move straight into a coaching pathway. Your written plan will guide your early sessions with clear focus areas.
